It should have read:

I am an American Sailor, and a Warrior First. I Fight under the Red, White and Blue of my Fathers and descend from John Paul Jones and Oliver Hazard Perry. In my ears rings "I have not yet begun to fight" and "don't give up the ship", and in my veins flows Fire and Gunpowder. I will master my profession and demand that my fellow Sailors master theirs. I will follow when lead, and Lead when able. I will place nothing above the welfare of my fellow Sailors, save my Mission, and no matter what my ship, squadron, station or watch, I will help deliver Defeat to the Enemy. In this I will not fail. With Honor in my Head, Courage in my Heart, and Commitment in my Hands, I will be a Warrior first, until Victory is in hand and Liberty is secure.

Good words, thanks. Wish we'd had your input when we were developing ethos options. In the end, there are various ways to communicate who and what we are as Sailors. This anonymous writer's sample is excellent. The published version does the job, as well.

Sir,
Our command, Naval Station Everett, just went through a command wide training on the Navy Ethos. It was a very good training because the command is made up of majority civilian than military. Having the civilians and military go through this training was a big deal. It almost reminded me of Plebe year at the Academy when the upperclassmen started everyone from ground zero and attempted to school us on a philosophy that would bound us together and teach us to work together for the main purpose of graduating with not only a diverse education, but the knowledge that one the "strength of one link of the cable dependent the might of the chain."
Working together and pushing diversity into our community will continue to change the Navy and push out the old fashion methods of individuality.

God bless and Happy New Years.

Very Respectfully,
LCDR Aletha Tatge
